UK Policy Recommendations
Our latest report entitled “Priorities for UK Policymakers”, presents evidence on the benefits of utilising the Waste Derived Fuel (WDF) supply chain to address three major challenges:
- Reducing levels of methane and CO₂ emissions to limit the rate of climate change;
- Ensuring resources are used in a circular (rather than a linear) way so their full value is realised; and
- Reducing fossil energy consumption and supporting energy security.
Current and future waste and energy-related policies must be designed to support the WDF industry to maximise its potential towards these three global challenges.
In order to achieve these, the RDF Industry Group recommends that UK policymakers adopt the following approaches:
- Act on landfill policy;
- Ensure a thriving export market; and
- Incorporate Energy from Waste in emissions trading.
The attached report addresses specific points within these approaches and urges policymakers to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support a circular economy and improve energy security.
